Technology is...
exploring, helping, sharing
EXPLORING
Technology allows us to explore things happening in the world around us from the safety of the classroom. Students are able to experience volcanic eruptions in Hawaii, ceremonial dances in China, and the diversity of life on the Great Barrier Reef, from anywhere, all because of technology. This access to limitless information is giving them the freedom to independently develop their own questions and search for meaningful answers.
HELPING
Technology can help students overcome barriers preventing their learning or participation in the class. Students can struggle to understand ideas and concepts due to: language challenges, learning disabilities and/or physical limitations, and technology has been developed to help these students succeed. Technology also gives students greater opportunity for independent learning, so they are able to expand their thinking by listening to alternate opinions and methods or catch up on missed material.
SHARING
Collaboration is both a necessary life skill and a valuable tool for learning new information. Technology creates further opportunities to have students working with others by giving us tools to monitor participation and improve individual accountability, while also expanding the class community to include people from around the world. Social media has contributed greatly to our ability to communicate ideas and opinions with others and offers a relevant opportunity to develop communication skills and etiquette.
